Sailing Tomatoes - La Croix (Θεσσαλονίκη 2012)

The Sailing Tomatoes are mainly consisted of a group of childhood friends from a neighborhood in Thessaloniki, who always dreamed to travel around the world playing their music. It all starts in the summer of 2010, when Giorgos Moutoukias (mpouzouki) and Petros Anagnostopoulos (accordion) decide to travel around the islands of Greece and play music on the street, just to make a living for the summer. Their first destination is Skiathos, where after a few days Fillipos Seinkman (acoustic guitar) joins them. While traveling, the three of them, come up with ideas for their own songs. In early August, they meet Denis Dowling (vocals) at Ios. They jam together and give a promise to each other to meet again. Denis is a skipper, so the next day they all continue their travels. In the middle of September, he joins them in Thessaloniki, and they write some songs. They come up with the music, he adds the lyrics. Their next destination is Zagorohoria, where Vagelis Domanos (percusions), another childhood friend follows them. Around the middle of the winter, in Athens, Theodoros Moutoukias (acoustic bass) joins the band as well. They come up with the name “Sailing Tomatoes” inspired by a joke. In May of 2011 they record their first album “Dromos” in Sofita Studios in Athens.
After their second summer trip, they return to their base. There, they meet Dennis before he leaves for the U.S.. The band stays for the winter in Thessaloniki. Orfeas Kappa (clarinet), the newest member, officially joins the band there. They had originally met Orfeas in Volos last spring and saw him again at Heraclion of Crete and Syros. Their friendship became stronger and they played together for the first time in Naxos. In May of 2012 they record their second album “Ψιχαλίζει στα παλιά” /ˈPsichalizei sta Palia/ in Shellac Studios.
Since then, the Sailing Tomatoes keep on basking ‘n’ traveling.
