Figures in a Landscape, 1984 for Flute & Marimba
Peter Klatzow is one of the few South African composers to achieve international recognition. He stats: „Re-establishing the primacy of tonality, without excluding non-tonal music
as an extension of musical means. Concerning the musical language his aim is: broadening a vocabulary which can and does communicate”. Figures in a Landscape for Flute and Marimba is a challenging and demanding composition in free form.

Natalia Gerakis, one of the most accomplished greek flutists and Zhe Lin, several times award winning Marimba virtuoso from China, present an exciting world journey through the continents: from Europe to North and South America, via Africa, Asia and Oceania including impressinonist, modern and contemporary compositions for Flute & Marimba.

Both Stuttgart- and Athens-based, greek flutist Natalia Gerakis has performs as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestra player at major halls and festivals throughout Europe. She has been principal flutist of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra and the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra (Marseille), has performed with the Athens State Orchestra, the Mikis Theodorakis Popular Orchestra, the Wuerttembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn, has collaborated with the Chamber Theater of the Stuttgart State Opera Haus and has been a member of the scholarhip program of the Ensemble Modern Frankfurt/Germany. Natalia Gerakis studied with G.Amar and V.Prats at the N. & L.Boulanger Conservatoire in Paris, from where she graduated with the “1er Prix de la Ville de Paris”. She obtained her post-graduate diploma from the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart under Prof. J.C.Gérard, on scholarship of the Greek State. Currently Natalia Gerakis is a sought-after tutor of international music courses (Springiersbacher Meisterkurse /Germany, European Academy of Camerata Europaea /Germany, Adams European Flute Center /Holland, International Forum for Flute und Piano /Luxembourg).
ZHE LIN
Zhe Lin demonstrates, with extraordinary sensitivity, that Marimba is no longer an estranged instrument in the European concert halls, but rather a versatile keyboard instrument, which can be played in a variety of solo and ensemble settings. Born in Qingdao/China, she picked up her first pair of drum sticks at the tender age of five and just seven years later she received a scholarship, which enabled her to study at the Beijing Central Conservatory of Musicwith Prof. Zhao. Further studies she accomplished at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart, Germany with Prof. M.Klimsara, Prof. K.Dreher, Prof. H.Löhle and J.Spitschka. Zhe Lin played in various ensembles, including the China Youth Symphony Orchestra (Solo Timpani), the Youth National Chinese Wind Orchestra, the Beijing Jian Li Percussion Ensemble, the Orchestra of the Stuttgart State Opera House, the Talking Drums Ensemble. The gifted percussionist gained international recognition in 2008 when she was awarded second prize at the 5th World Marimba Competitionin Stuttgart/Germany. In addition, she displayed her technical brilliance and outstanding musical expression by receiving first prize at both the 2nd International Marimba Competition of Chinain 2010 and the 59th German Music Universities Competitionin May 2011.
